Things to Do in La Quinta

La Quinta is one of the premier golf destinations in the US, but also boasts arts and culture events to please every type of visitor – whether they prefer watching sports or singing karaoke! No matter your taste there is something here for everyone!

1. Visit the La Quinta Museum

The La Quinta Museum is a cultural center that provides an insight into La Quinta’s rich heritage, from early Native American inhabitants and desert community development, through ranching and agriculture, ranching operation history and dedicated ranches – with an aim of informing youth, seniors and multi-ethnic groups about this rich legacy of their town.

This museum opened in 2008 and occupies a two-story, 9,000-square-foot Spanish colonial revival building. It offers three galleries, research facilities and archives as well as a community room, featuring photos and dioramas depicting original La Quinta resort, local history exhibits and art displays.

Attractions to see in Old Town La Quinta include the museum and City Hall. Both offer spectacular architecture that capture the history and essence of desert living, respectively. City Hall was designed specifically to foster open, transparent, responsive government which resonates with visitors of Old Town La Quinta.

There’s plenty to see and do at the museum, with an exhibit dedicated to Cahuilla Indians featuring artwork and historical narratives that provide insight into their lifestyle, traditions, and strong bond to desert landscape. Additionally, pioneers and settlers who made significant contributions in this region are honored as well.

The museum gift shop offers an excellent selection of souvenirs. There is an excellent collection of books about desert living, arts and crafts as well as local products available here; plus jewelry and other artistic goods that will complete the picture.

2. Take a Bike Tour

La Quinta provides many opportunities to enjoy bike riding. Rent a cruiser or E-bike and explore paved routes in town, or head out onto desert trails that provide ample room for cyclists and mountain bikers to coexist peacefully.

Old Town is La Quinta’s captivating outdoor shopping center designed in California Renaissance style, boasting elegant buildings clad with whitewashed buildings topped by red tile roofs reminiscent of centuries-old missions. On its main street you will find boutiques, gourmet dining establishments, art galleries and charming cafes; whilst upstairs are offices and other businesses; creating a pleasing balance between work and play.
